June is National Gun Violence Awareness Month! According to American Public Health Association, gun violence is a leading cause of premature death. We must join together and Build awareness today!
..Sheriff Eric Scheffler and the Atlantic County Sheriff's Office did their part in raising awareness against gun violence survivors by joining Gun Violence Awareness Walk at Browns Park in Atlantic City yesterday, June 1, 2023. The Walk was held in partnership with the Office of the Attorney General, Atlantic County Sheriff's Office, Atlantic City Police Department, Coalition for a Safe Community, NAACP Atlantic City Branch, and the City of Atlantic City. According to the Gun Violence Archive,
there have been nearly 18,000 gun-related deaths in the U.S. so far this year, including suicides and 268 mass shootings of four or more victims. NAACP President & Atlantic City Councilman Kaleem Shabazz provided opening remarks for the Gun Violence Awareness Walk. Atlantic County Prosecutor William Reynolds provided remarks against gun violence and presented Coalition for a Safe Community Chairman Perry Mays with a commendation for his outstanding leadership in the community.
