Supporting our Veterans
As the son of a US Army veteran of the Korean war, Sheriff Scheffler understands first hand the commitment and sacrifices made by our military personnel. From the onset of his tenure as sheriff he used his available resources to financially support our local veterans through fundraisers. Sheriff Eric Scheffler stated, “Our military personnel on the frontline keep all of us safe while we enjoy the freedom that they pay for with their service; at times with the ultimate sacrifice. We need to remember this and honor their service by not only supporting them while they are on active duty. We need to continue to provide the necessary support they require when they return home to their community after serving.''
Veteran Support and Partnership Programs
The Smiles For Vets Program/Smiles for Vets Day started in Atlantic County and is now a national program that provides free dental care for veterans.
The South Jersey Veterans Mobile Outreach Program helps veterans struggling with addiction to find housing, work, medical services and benefits support.
K9 Warriors connects veterans with service dogs.
The dogs are trained not just to help with veterans medical conditions, but also to engage in a sport or activity that fits with the veteran. This allows them to better assimilate, stay active and enjoy their canine buddy.
